Benjamin Franklin-September 17, 1787: A Republic, If You Can Keep It

I remember the bicentennial like it was yesterday. A celebration filled with pageantry, pride, family & friends. Fast forward fifty years & this weekend we are now celebrating 250 years of the United States of America independence. I find myself asking the question, ‘where have the years gone?’ While much has changed over the past few decades, much has not.

Division is part of the human condition. From children to seniors & everyone in between people will always disagree. This is a part of life. Figuring it out & working it out however is also part of life. It is a benchmark of maturity & civility. What happens when the ‘adults aren’t in the room’? When people disagree & no desire to fix it? What happens when individuals no longer believe in the greater good for the benefit of our country putting individual & special interest needs & wants above all else? What happens when people who do not believe in the foundation of our country disregard all that we find sacred? This is where we find ourselves today July 4, 2026.

I believe America 250 has arrived at a critical time. That this national celebration of patriotism & national pride is an opportunity for all of us to re-awaken to the things that made our country great. The timing of this reawakening is Divine Providence. A greater calling to save what we hold sacred & dear to our hearts. We are at a crossroads. To save our beloved republic we must get back to our roots, our past & our traditions. A reset of what it means to be an American & a wake up call to get involved to save our precious country.

I see hope in parents & homeschoolers who are embracing & teaching American history. Small business owners who work tirelessly to make Main Street a viable alternative to big box corporations. The homeowners who are organizing their communities against government overreach & corporate takeovers of farmland & open wide spaces. I see it in the traditions of intact families who love God, exhibit respect, help neighbors & love this country.

Through the lens of someone who has lived through much, I do see a the possibility of a beautiful future. A future that can be achieved with the Revolutionary spirit of 250 years ago. However, everyone must wake up from complacency. From our own routines, contentment & slumber. Every American can make a difference but only with action. In order to take back our lives, our communities & our country to secure another 250 years of faith, family & freedom everyone needs to embrace the revolutionary spirit from years ago & take action. Lots of little deeds add up to larger actions. I love this country, I love our history & I love the American Spirit that made America great. God Bless the USA & Happy 250 America!
