January ushers in a new beginning. The removal of holiday decorations, new resolutions & starting fresh. Historically I usually found myself buying lots of new things to help with this transition. New storage containers, cute baskets & all the items that would make my home more organized & manageable. This year I am not. I have spent the first two weeks of 2026 looking at my home with fresh eyes.

Rearranging furniture, lamps & accessories while ‘shopping’ in my closets to use items I already own. I enjoy buying pretty things & always seem to accumulate more than I actually use. Nonetheless, this year I am committed to utilizing what I already have. The crystal bowls I was gifted years ago make great storage container’s. Baskets that once adorned upper shelves now store blankets. As I go room by room I am looking at things differently. What wonderful items do I have hidden in a closet that I can now put to good use? As I am organizing & redoing, I am falling in love with what I already have. I am moving furniture and rearranging accessories. I am appreciating so many items that carry memories from when I received them as gifts. Realizing I have some beautiful old things, makes me smile. I am saving money at the same time & am feeling good about my progress. My quest for organization has extended to my clothes closet as well. How many pairs of jeans do I really need? I have learned my style has been consistent over the years. I have accumulated an extensive wardrobe of all various versions of the same things.

How long my mission will last, I do not know. For now, I am rediscovering things I already own & feeling accomplished getting my home & my life in order.
